Ms. Aboud’s and Ms. Geller’s Notes

Hello Parents!  The end of the year is almost here!  We are wrapping up our units that we are working on and beginning to review our skills from the whole year.  In Math we will be making a Paper Patchwork Quilt.  The children will learn about different patterns, lines of symmetry, and design.  We will continue to work on our Civil War Project during most of our free time.   For Reading we are going to focus on short stories and reading comprehension, main idea and supporting facts.

This is our last week of homework, spelling tests, and Scholastic/Time Quizzes.

      .

DATES TO REMEMBER

5/16 – Civil War Project Due

5/17 – WPA Auction

5/26 – No School

5/27 – High School Graduation

5/28 – end of the year trip – Connor Prairie

5/30 – Award’s Day and last day of school

Just a Reminder …. Civil War Project

The Civil War Project is due Friday.  The children have been working on this for a long time at school and at home. It is a major portion of their Social Studies grade.  One thing we have stressed to the kids is that we want to see their own work not their parent’s, siblings, etc. We want them to use their keyboard skills and type the pages themselves. You will be impressed once they are bound!

Discovery Quest

On Fridays we have our Discovery Quest presentations.  Below is a schedule of when the children are presenting.  Please check the website or the Fourth Grade Open House Packet for each month’s topic choices.

May 16thKamron, Sydney, Christopher, Nicole, / Aidan, Madelyn, Kalin, Rosemary, Kinsey

May 23th - Madeline, Zac, Andrew, Katie, Alexander / Jake Martina, Bridget, Rachel

Scholastic News / Time Magazine Quizzes

Our classes get two children’s magazines every week – Scholastic News and Time Magazine.  We will distribute one of the magazines on Tuesdays with a take home Quiz.  The children can read the magazine at school or at home and answer the questions. They may use their magazine to answers the questions.  The Quizzes will be due on Thursdays to be used as an assessment.

Homework

Homework will always come home in the yellow.  All assignments (unless otherwise noted) are due the following day.  Spelling will be assigned on Monday and the unit is due on Friday.  A spelling test will be given on Friday.

Fourth Grade Parents

It is a Walden tradition to have a Lower School end of the year photo show during the Awards Day ceremony. As the 4th grade will be “graduating” from Lower School we add a special “then to now” section. Please gather a cute picture of your child under the age of 3 and a current picture of your child. Either email them to Mrs. Fitts at lfitts@walden-school.org or put the hard copies in plastic bag with the student’s name written on it and turn in to the office or Mrs. Fitts. If you do not have a current picture of your child Mrs. Fitts will take a photo during school. These work best if both picture images are about the same size. The pictures will be returned to you in your child’s awards day envelope. Thank you!

These are “Bonus Words” for spelling they come from all areas of study.  You may choose for your student to study these in addition to the regular spelling words.
