Text Box: Students may want to keep wipes or sanitizing lotion for their hands in their lockers, for regular use before break and/or before lunch. This will be especially valuable during flu season. Tardies to School—Thank you to all of the students who have started off this school year consistently on time! Students need to be dropped off no later than 7:50 AM, so that they can be ready to start first period on time (8:00 AM sharp). Being just a few moments late to school hurts a child’s learning. A student who is regularly 10 minutes late can miss up to 30 hours of instructional time over the course of the school year. Students can copy notes or make up assignments, but they can never get back the class time they have missed: the discussions, the instructions, the questions, the explanations by the teacher, and the thinking that makes learning come alive. Your child’s success in school depends on having a solid educational background—one that is enhanced by regular attendance and by consistently being on time to school. Walden’s policy for Middle School is that students who are tardy eight times in a trimester will receive a detention. Just a reminder that athletic shoes are required for Physical Education classes and for participation during recess when inclement weather requires recess to be held in the gym. If students own more than one pair of sneakers, please keep a spare in the locker, so that shoes worn outside do not track in dirt onto the newly refinished gym floor. 5th grade has PE on Tuesdays, Thursdays and Fridays. 6W has PE on Mondays and Wednesdays. 6S has PE on Tuesdays and Thursdays. 7th grades has PE on Tuesdays and Thursdays. 8th grade is remixed (not with their homerooms) for PE and has it MW or TTh. BAND INSTRUMENTS—Please remember to bring in instruments on Band days: 5th grade—M, W, & F. 6th grade—Tu. & Th. 7th grade—M & W. Carpool Reminder—Middle School carpool lasts from 3:00 to 3:15. Please be on time to pick up your children. If you come into the building to pick up your child and need to take care of other business (e.g., main office, business office, talk to teacher, WPA, etc.), please make sure your child is by your side, or waiting for you in the TAH, so that students are not unsupervised after dismissal.
