Welcome to Walden K-Kids!

We are a community service organization teamed with the Kiwanis in St. Matthews.  Walden is proud to host 3 levels of these clubs, K-Kids for 3-5th graders, Builder’s Club for middle school, and the Key Club for upper school.  The K-kids will have several fundraisers throughout the year as well as community service projects.  We already know that we will be purchasing gifts for less fortunate kids during holiday times as well as going to the Falls of the Ohio in the spring to pick up trash.  We want to make sure we are helping our school, our neighborhood, and our community. The club is run by its officers (5th graders) and all projects and fundraisers are decided by the club.

The K-Kids' motto is "We Build," and its objectives are:

·         To provide opportunities for working together in service to school and community.

·         To develop leadership potential.

·         To foster the development of strong moral character.

·         To encourage loyalty to school, community, and nation.

Have a great idea for a community service project?

If anyone has any special community service projects that you have in mind, please feel free to let Mrs. Fiely or any of the K-kids know about them and we will discuss them in the meetings.  We are open to all suggestions!

The meetings will last for 30 minutes, from 11:45-12:15 one Tuesday a month.  The officers will have a meeting on the Monday before each meeting to prepare for the meeting.  The middle school kids will need to bring their lunches with them to eat during the meeting.  Lower school kids can just come to Mrs. Fiely’s room during their normal recess time.  Occasionally, additional meetings may be called to work on special projects.  We will also add field trip dates as soon as we know them.  Thanks!

Interested in joining?

Any 3rd-5th grader can join; dues are $5 and can be paid to Jordan O’Reilly (treasurer) or Mrs. Fiely.

The History of K-Kids

Taken from www.kkids.org

K-Kids, a Kiwanis club sponsored program, has seen steady growth since its inception in 1990. Begun in Florida, where 1998-99 Kiwanis Governor Lamar Fisher developed the program and provided continuing support, K-Kids soon spread to other Kiwanis districts. As a result of its growth, K-Kids was adopted as a sponsored program on October 1, 1998. The first club chartered by International was the K-Kids Club of Brooksville Elementary School in Florida.

Today, in addition to the US, there are clubs in Australia, Bahamas, Barbados, Canada, Italy, Jamaica, Malaysia, Martinique, Nigeria, the Philippines, and Trinidad and Tobago. There are over 600 K-Kids clubs across the world!
